Free attic checks and written quotes

Homes from Orillia out to Washago and Brechin may qualify for an attic insulation rebate of as much as $1,250 under Home Renovation Savings, the provincial program. This page lays out the program's rules as they stood when we last checked them in October 2026.

Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy fund the program between them. Go over its own website before booking any job you hope to claim through the attic insulation rebate.

Attic Insulation Rebate details

How Much The Attic Insulation Rebate Pays

On the standalone attic route, the attic has to reach at least R-50. An attic holding R-12 or less today can earn the full attic insulation rebate of $1,250. One holding more than R-12 but no more than R-25 can earn $1,000, and one holding more than R-25 but no more than R-35 can earn $800.

Cathedral ceilings and flat roofs are paid on their own scale: $750 when R-25 or less is brought up to R-28, and $650 when R-12 or less is brought up to R-20. Whatever the tier, the attic insulation rebate stops at half of what the job cost after tax, and every reachable part of the attic must be insulated before any money is paid.

Two Routes To The Attic Insulation Rebate

The standalone route needs no energy assessment, but the attic insulation rebate flows only to jobs done by one of the contractors the program has named, and no new names are being accepted. When we checked in October 2026, the six names on it were Solidcare, Home Depot, Great Northern Insulation, George Kent, EcoComfort and Brand Insulation. Confirm the list on the program's site before you sign anything you plan to claim.

The assessment route pays more and lets you pick any contractor. A registered energy advisor visits before and after, and at least two upgrades are completed. On that route the three starting tiers climb to $1,500, $1,200 and $900, with $780 for a cathedral ceiling or a flat roof.

Who Qualifies For The Attic Insulation Rebate

The home has to be yours. You must either buy gas from Enbridge and heat with a gas furnace or boiler, or draw power from Ontario's grid while heating with electric heat, oil, propane or wood. That opens the attic insulation rebate to a lot of cottages and rural homes around Orillia; even a seasonal cottage can be eligible.

Eligible buildings are detached houses, semis and row houses, plus mobile homes resting on a permanent foundation. A home occupied for under six months is not, and neither is a stacked townhouse or any address that has collected an attic rebate before, whether from Enbridge, from Save on Energy or from any other Ontario program. A landlord may apply for a rental.

The Attic Insulation Rebate Can Change

As of our last check, the program is currently scheduled to end on November 30, 2026, and it could change or stop before then. Amounts, rules and the contractor list can all shift, so check the details on the program's site before work starts.

Either way, we measure your starting R-value at the free visit and write it on the quote, so you can see which attic insulation rebate tier your attic falls into.

Work That Often Goes With This One

Several of these are usually done on the same day.

  • Attic Insulation Top-Up

Orillia's older houses mostly need an attic insulation top-up: fresh loose fill laid over the dry layer already up there, until the depth sits near R-60. For an older house, nothing gets the attic up to standard faster or for less money.

    Steps and prices
  • Blown-In Attic Insulation

Blown-in attic insulation is loose cellulose or fibreglass sent up a hose and spread across the whole ceiling, around every wire, box and joist. It reaches the spots that batts leave open.

    Steps and prices
  • Cottage Attic Insulation

Cottage attic insulation turns a thin summer ceiling into one that holds heat through a winter weekend. It is priced from the same rates we charge for a house in town.

    Steps and prices
  • Attic Insulation Removal

Attic insulation removal vacuums out old fill that is wet, mouldy, flattened or fouled by animals, so the ceiling can be air sealed and refilled from scratch. A large hose carries it from the attic to a collection unit or sealed bags outside.

    Steps and prices
  • Vermiculite Attic Insulation

Pebbly vermiculite attic insulation in an older house may contain asbestos, so a lab test always comes before any other step. Until the result is in, the safest choice is to leave it alone.

    Steps and prices
  • Attic Air Sealing

Attic air sealing in an Orillia house stops the warm, damp indoor air that slips up through gaps at lights, pipes and wires. We work from above, on the ceiling side, ahead of any new fill.

    Steps and prices
  • Ice Dam Prevention

Ice dam prevention works from under the roof, keeping the roof boards so cold that the snow on top stays frozen until spring. Sealing, depth and open soffits are the three tools.

    Steps and prices
  • Attic Insulation Cost

Around Orillia, attic insulation cost generally works out at $1.25 to $3.50 per square foot of ceiling, cottages and houses alike. Taking old fill out first costs more.
